Frequently Asked Questions

How much will my prosthesis cost?
Prices vary hugely, although a rough guide would be from £3000 for a basic limb, to over £45000 for the most modern high specification limbs for the highest levels of amputation.

Can you still give me a cost if I don't attend a consultation?
No. We can give general guidance, but experience has proved that there are too many variables that need to be considered to get an accurate quote. This is why all our initial consultations are free.

Do you see patients for pre-amputation appointments?
Yes, we see many patients for a pre-amputation consultation to help put their minds at ease.

How many appointments will I need and how long will each last?
It depends on the type of limb, and the physiotherapy package required. The limb can normally be made in 4 visits, and then the physiotherapy may be up to another 10, or as many required to ensure your best outcome.

Where are your clinics?
Our main clinic is in Coalville, Leicestershire. We also offer a visiting service where we can see you at home and perform some of the stages necessary for your limb to be made.

How long will I have to wait until I can be seen?
We can normally arrange an initial consultation within a week.

How long will it take to get my prosthesis?
This depends on your availability for appointments and the components that we are utilising. We can manufacture a limb without a cover in around 4 weeks, while a limb with a cover may take 8 to 10 weeks. Our record for manufacturing a limb is 36 hours from casting to delivery!

How can I pay for my prosthesis?
You can pay by credit card, cheque, bank transfer or cash if you pay in person.

How long will you guarantee my prosthesis for?
Most prosthetic components have warranties for 2 to 3 years from the manufacturer, and we honour these fully. Warranties for socket technologies and cosmetic covers vary, and will be discussed during your initial assessment.

Where is the nearest airport to your clinic in Coalville?
The nearest airport is East Midlands, approximately 15 miles away. We are also within easy reach of Birmingham Airport.

Can you recommend any accommodation where I can stay?
We have a list of places you can stay in the Coalville area. All have easy access, and we have arranged preferential rates at some hotels.

Do you have a Physiotherapist I can see?
Yes, we have a world renowned Physiotherapist who specialises in helping amputees. Here at REHAB Prosthetics we link our prosthetic services and our physiotherapy together, so that your initial assessment will involve both physiotherapist and prosthetist, and physiotherapy can start as early as your initial fitting.

Will you charge me for cancelling an appointment?
No. We do like as much notice as possible though.

If I pay for a limb privately, does this mean I leave the NHS service?
No. You will still be registered with the NHS limb service, and can still be treated by them. Attending REHAB Prosthetics is a private agreement between us.
